Body: EPA
(Environmental Protection Agency)
Legal Role: Preparation and implementation of a national hydrometric monitoring programme (section 64 of EPA Act 1992)
Administrative Role: Implemented through the national hydrometric monitoring group, jointly chaired by the EPA and the OPW.
Physical Works: Minor physical works required for upkeep and maintenance of monitoring locations (which are owned and operated by local authorities)
Permits/Licences: n/a
Assets: The main assets are the monitoring stations themselves and the associated telemetry equipment and IT services for analysis and disemmination of information. The EPA plan to have all of these stations connected through telemetry by the end of Q2 2016.
Description: Please refer to Hydronet at www.hydronet.epa.ie which includes a full register of all hydrometric stations in the Shannon RBD and GIS interactive maps for the stations
Timing: Monitoring is on-going at all sites either for flow, level or both.
External Constraints: The stations are owned by local authorities so all planning, access, upkeep and maintenance issues are managed by the relevant local authority. With the establishment of Irish Water, there is some ambiquity as to how these sites will be owned and managed in the future.
Output KPI: Up to date information on water flows and levels and their accessibility through Hydronet.epa.ie.
Expected Outcome: Up to date information on water flows and levels and their accessibility thorough Hydronet.epa.ie.
